The Re-Script workshop: D is for....

Today's re-script workshop challenge is a really exciting and easy one! Honestly, as D is for Dresses!
As women who want inner strength and outer gorgeousness, we can often end up falling victim to fast-fashion, fashion fads and frankly, just bad buys. Items which appear to be a bargain, but which in fact are ill fitting, don't go with anything and will inevitable end up in the back of your wardrobe until they hit the eBay pile.
(Source)
Your challenge for today is to ensure that your inner strength is indeed reflected in your outer gorgeousness by culling that wardrobe and making sure that said wardrobe contains at least one dress!
Dresses are fabulous- no matter what your shape, style or lifestyle there is a dress to suit you and you really do need to be wearing it! Apart from being thoroughly stylish, adaptable and easy to dress up or style down, a dress is your best friend simply because it is a single garment. Gone are the daily dilemmas surrounding what to wear. You have the fab jeans but no suitable top, or you have a great shirt but your skirt isn't quite right. Enter, the dress. One item which you can quickly pull on, layer up with a cardi, warm up with tights, chill out with sandals or notch up with high heels. If you don't have a dress in your newly culled wardrobe then I urge you to get one. Try on some of a friends, find out about your bodyshape and see if you can find one to suit you, but nothing will give you that feeling of ultra-outer gorgeousness than a dress.
Don't forget, you can send your unwanted clothing off to the local Chazza, recycle things by giving them to your friends and even keep pieces with cool fabrics for future make do and mend projects. Inner strength is our goal and it includes outer beauty so get culling and make sure you own that 'I look amazing' dress!
Do let me know how you get on girls!

Dresses to Impress- the A-Z of fab frocks and gorgeous gowns.... T is for Tea Dresses!

Have you noticed once the sun comes out ladies go for a dress?! Hooray! Tea dresses are todays topic of choice and what better dress to carry you through a seasonal transition like Winter into Spring and Spring into Summer?
Tara Starlet £85
So named beacuse of its aptness for being worn to afternoon tea, (minimum cleavage, maximum impact!) the tea dress comes in a variety of styles. Often tea dresses are patterned fabric in bright colours and are soft and feminine. The tea dresses of the 1940s would have been made from cotton or chiffon and the skirt would either be A-line or slightly full (fabric rations allowing). A demure V neck, often with ruching under the bust or delicate buttons and the padded shoulder detail is iconic of forties tea dresses. The dresses were designed to accentuate the waist so would often have a belt and  usually fell to just below the knee. Some had a collar, others front buttons.
Electricgypsy.co.uk £65
The beauty of the tea dress is that's it is so very easy to wear. Comfortable yet slightly structured, a good tea dress will leave you feeling soft and feminine as you demurely eat your scone or hold your vintage china tea cup. There are lots of tea dresses around this Spring as they tend to suit almost everyone.

Get your Frocks on, Get your Frocks on Honey!

It's events season again at Redressing- those Friday Night Glam-Fests where frocks are tried and  admired; new looks discovered and body shape sussed and you can really refresh the way you dress.
These are just a few of my all time favs!

Don't forget- at a Redressing event or a Pop-In-And-Shop there is never any obligation to buy; rather a desire to refresh the way you dress, add some vintage glamour and style and know that you are gorgeous, inside and out!
If you fancy hosting an event or know someone who does, drop me a line!

(Oh and the hostess receives a free colour analysis or £10 dress voucher too!)

Fab Frock Friday! The 1940s tea dress

I've found some lovely examples of a 1940s tea dress this month. The first is this luscious number from Warehouse.
Warehouse £48
It has all the lovely detailing of a forties frock; midi length, shoulder puffs, button through and collar. Available from Warehouse for £48.

Another lovely dress is this one from Electric Gypsy. It's made to an original 1940s pattern and comes in some gorgeous fabrics in modern sizes 8-16. A bit steeper at £68 but a beautiful, original handmade dress.
Electric Gypsy £68

I have one darling tea dress in Redressing at the moment in a size 18. It's a high street take on the 40s shirtwaister so has all the flavour of an original but less authenticity than a reproduction dress. Still gorgeous!
Redressing £15
And of course there's always the gorgeous Floral Sweetheart dress from Tara Starlet which is available in lots of lovely different floral fabrics this season. The dearest by far at £85, but a stunning forties style frock nonetheless.

Something for every budget on this Fab Frock Friday! Have a great weekend!
